Kaiwaka Organics
HERITAGE GARDEN CENTRE
Our shop was established by Kay Baxter and Bob Corker, as 'Koanga Gardens' to provide a retail outlet for the Koanga Institute, which has been involved in the collecting, saving and distribution of many of NZ's Heritage vegetable seeds and fruit trees for the last 25 years.
When Bob and Kay moved away from Kaiwaka in 2007, the shop was bought by Romi Curl. Romi has a background in retail, having managed 'Organics' in Devonport for two years and 'Huckleberry Farms' in Epsom for ten years.
She is passionate about organics, food politics and of course - the preservation of heritage seeds, plants and trees.
The name of the shop was changed in June 2010 when it ceased to operate under license to the Koanga Institute.

Elaine Butterworth worked at Koanga Gardens while Kay was here, and learned so much from her. Elaine continues to work in the shop on Saturdays and Tuesdays.

Elaine has a wealth of gardening knowledge and she maintains not only the shop garden but an extensive garden at her home.
Jill Oldfield is our Office Manager.
